CAB AWARDED SUSTAINABLE PATH GRANT
2026

The CAB (Edmonds Climate Advisory Board), in 2026, applied for and was awarded a grant from the Sustainable Path Foundation.

The philosophy of the Foundation is as follows:

Our Philosophy

Sustainable Path Foundation is about funding projects and supporting dialogues that focus on finding solutions for a sustainable society. At the heart of our work is the belief that the principles of science can help us find solutions to some of the most significant and interconnected challenges facing our region.

And, the grant that was awarded will go toward this project:

Tree Mapping Project

Edmonds' trees are part of what makes this place home: the shade over our streets, the green on our hillsides, the canopy that cools our summers and shelters our watersheds. The Edmonds Climate Advisory Board is deeply grateful to the Sustainable Path Foundation, whose support is making it possible to understand and protect that canopy like never before. With this grant, we are using historical aerial imagery and machine learning to map Edmonds' tree canopy and trace how it has changed over the past two decades, tree by tree, across the entire city. This will be the most rigorous and complete picture of our urban forest ever assembled, replacing guesswork with a single, trustworthy account of where canopy has been lost, where it has grown, and which neighborhoods have been left behind. That clarity matters, because our climate is changing and our community deserves to meet that change with facts rather than assumptions. The findings will help the City protect and expand its urban forest equitably, building resilience for every neighborhood while supporting cleaner air, cooler streets, and healthier watersheds.
